CHIMERA SNOWBOARDS—SUNDIALERS

  |   SLUSH STAFF

'Sundialers' is a visual story, documenting a crew of friends and their splitboarding adventures.

Filmed during the 2023/2024 season across the Wasatch, Uinta, Sawtooth, Snake River, and Teton Mountains, the crew uses their own human power to explore backcountry terrain as the seasons change.

[Chapter I: Deep Winter: dance of the sub-alpinist], commences around the winter solstice. Here are the deepest days with the longest nights, warm backcountry huts, and epic storm days.

[Chapter II: Spring Bloom: ridgeline tango], takes us to the spring equinox. The alpine begins to open up and provide opportunities in the higher elevations. With daylight lasting longer and missions stretching further, fields of corn, surprise powdays, and technical lines present themselves.

[Chapter III: Summer’s Slog: the last call], concludes around the summer solstice. While most people have hung up their boots for the season, these are the final days where camping amongst lingering snowfields remains as the only option for standing sideways in the snow. Often requiring longer walks, more creativity, and excessive ‘tools’ (why not bring your dirtbikes, skateboards, and fishing poles?), these missions require a special kind of dedication.

This film may not revolve around epic first descents or insane stunts, but where it shines is capturing something relatable to any snowboarder. A tangible feeling of adventure and excitement, the simple pleasure that comes from making turns in endless snow, exploring the mountains, and a crew of dirtbag friends willing to chase it until the end.
