It is not everyday you get to ride a perfectly built flow course alongside 100+ female riders. It was actually not even a possibility until Snowboy, Jess, B4BC, and Barrett started "It Tits!" four years ago. Although there was only one sunny day, this year may have been the best yet. It was definitely the most girls I’ve seen at "Its Tits!". People came from everywhere. Mia Brooks from England. Henna from Helsinki. Ivika from Estonia. A bunch of East Coasters. The entire SLC snowboard community. With borders and travel finally becoming a thing again, it seemed like everyone that could be there, was there. Young girls riding alongside their idols. Teams getting to know each other. New friends and connections being made at every feature. The energy was HIGH. Yews and hollers were heard from every direction. Progression was found all over the course. Riders were teaching other riders how to do handplants and Miller flips. Friends following friends getting iPhone clips. Girls working with photographers and videographers to get the shot.
Women supporting and lifting each other up is contagious. That support and encouragement happened after the riding as well. The week started with a Pitch Session led by Mary Walsh, Jill Perkins, Barrett Christy, Bobby Meeks, Megs Pischke, Jess Kimura, and Yulin Olliver. They led us through a marketing discussion and how to navigate the action sport landscape. Jess taught us how to present media strategies to companies and demonstrated that tenacity and hard work get things done. Laura Rogoski had an afternoon gathering promoting mental health awareness. Skate Like A Girl brought us to Windells to skate and led an allyship presentation. We learned that there are people and resources out there to help us in snowboarding and beyond.
One of the most important things in snowboarding and in life is community and friendship. This event is centered around that. I remember when I was a teenager, I rode with all boys and thought the only way I could meet a girl snowboarder was to go to a serious competition. Because of this event, we are making friends based around hyping each other up, working together, and having fun. "It Tits!" changes people's lives and is helping progress women’s snowboarding in the best way.
Shout out to the diggers. The weather was insane and it snowed three nights. They put in the work to make sure we had an epic course to ride everyday. Without the dedicated diggers this event would never happen. Shout out to Krush and his team for putting the community on their back to put this together. Thanks to Timberline for hosting us. And last but not least thank you B4BC for everything they do to promote women’s health and giving us a reason to shred beyond ourselves.
