If you’ve read any original online editorial in the past nine months, or the Tommy Gesme interview from Issue 4.1, you have read Norm's work. His passion for snowboarding and writing shines through in every piece. I said it yesterday day, and I’ll say it today: Norm is the best thing we’ve done at Slush in the last nine months. He’s not only a better writer then me, but also a much better jibber. Plus, Norm is also the creator of the self-made magazine: Garage Snowboard Magazine. Garage Mag is a publication for next generation of riders, writers, creatives & photographers. It’s unfiltered, authentic and raw.

I said it last year, and I’ll say happily say it again this year, Garage Mag’s fall cover reveal and video release party is hands-down my favorite event of the season. Here’s why:

  • Norm and his crew, with what seems like little budget, pull off an event that rivals any well-funded premiere. They rent out a space, offer free drinks, set up legit merch tables, have security – everything you’d expect from a high end event.
  • The films shown might be smaller budget productions, but they are packed with next-gen riders dropping absolute hammers. The filmers and riders are all there, celebrating their hard work and having their moment.
  • The vibe brings me right back to my first premiere. The energy from the younger crowd reminds me of all my “first” — my first house party, the first time I saw my friends on the big screen, my first time editing a video. It’s the feeling we all need to be reminded off.

This year Garage celebrated the release of its 5th Issue, and premiered 4 movies. Each movie was introduced by the creators and riders. The movies that played were:

Jacob Legault’s Part,

Good Samaritans Tandem

An untitled project from the Vermont Homies

Ant Hill.

And of course, the main event: the cover reveal. After a week spent on VG tour, Norm confidently stepped up to announce, ‘We went horizontal on them, revealing Skoot lacing a gap rail. What followed was a heart-warming celebration—beers pouring, hugs all around. The crowd quickly made their way to the merch table, securing their copies of the mag. Everyone was flipping, excited to see their homies featured.

Buy a copy Garage Mag and keep Norm and his crew doing what they love. Show up to local premieres and support the next generation of riders – they might just become your favorite.
