Mystery Series Returns with Worldwide Banked Slalom Events that Build the Snowboard Community Through Progression and Good Times for All Ages and Abilities.
BURLINGTON, VT. NOV 7, 2022 – Burton is excited to announce the Winter 2022/Spring 2023 schedule for the reimagined Mystery Series, an inclusive banked slalom event series that’s open and welcoming to all riders. The return of this highly successful series has been expanded to feature 21 events across the globe, each bringing together the community under a shared love for snowboarding to celebrate progression, connection, and good times for all ages and abilities.
“The Burton Mystery Series combines the best elements of snowboarding to create community,” said George Burton Carpenter. “These grassroots events are a celebration of the sport and lifestyle we all love. We’re focusing on snowboarding inclusivity and accessibility by partnering with resorts and city municipalities who are dedicated to sharing the love of snowboarding with everyone. Simultaneously, we’re creating the space for our pro athletes to inspire the next generation of riders with their talent. This format creates a shared sense of belonging between all levels of snowboarders: from the top athletes in the world to those who have never snowboarded before. We’re going to do what we do best – have fun together. Invite the whole family - you’ll fall more in love with our community and our sport!”
The 2022-2023 Burton Mystery Series schedule will kick off in December and wrap up in early May. Engaging and inclusive events will take place globally in Austria, China, Finland, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada and the United States. Each event will be centered on the playfulness of a banked slalom format that’s accessible to participants of all skill levels. These events aren’t about winning or losing. They have been developed so snowboarders have as much fun as possible, riding alongside friends and a few of the industry’s favorite athletes, while progressing their riding in unexpected ways. An open mind is all you need!
“I’m super excited to have the Burton Mystery Series come to my home province of Saskatchewan, said Mark McMorris, three-time Olympic slopestyle medalist. “The McMorris Foundation contributes to Optimist Hill to help them achieve their mission of providing accessible snowboarding to the city of Saskatoon and the surrounding area. Optimist Hill is the perfect host for the Burton Mystery Series, and I can’t wait to ride with all the locals.”
Burton team rider Ylfa Runarsdottir adds, “The Mystery Series feels like a concept that helps us find our way back to the roots of snowboarding where all levels, from pros to beginners, ride the same exact course, hang out and cheer each other on.”
All around the globe, the Burton Mystery Series throws away the rules of competition and focuses on what matters most: community and good times. From the banked slalom, to product giveaways, athlete demos, and BBQ/après hangouts, each event offers a platform for riders to explore snowboarding at their own pace.
Zeb Powell is really looking forward to this year’s tour and says, “I’m stoked to be returning to Minneapolis and Theodore Wirth Park. Last year was amazing with a Banked Slalom, a rider demo, and a cookout. There is something magical about Theodore Wirth Park as it proves that you can do a lot with a little bit of space. It is the perfect hill for our host, Melanin in Motion, which provides snowboarding for anybody that wants it. The opportunity to share experiences with this community means a lot to me and I can’t wait to be back this winter. See you at Theo Wirth Park!”
