This year we only allowed 40 people to vote. We gave the responsibility to the list of nominees that have occurred since our award’s inception in 2021—the past nominees for Rider of the Year, Footage of the Year, and Rookie of the Year. 40 names that we as a staff agreed put on the best showing in their respective disciplines for that year.
The winners of each category were chosen by their peers. Feels a little more legit this way. And less confusing. This votes started coming in and most of them were super close. Some winners narrowly won by a just few votes.....
DRUM ROLL PLEASE......
MARK MCMORRIS! stand out performances in every competition he enters. Bronze at the Olympics, Gold at X Games. In addition to contest wins, Mark filmed impressive footage in Fleeting Time and Ark. He brought big tricks with style to the backcountry. Simply one of the best to ever do it. And last year he was on top.
ZOI SADOWSKI-SYNNOTT! Once again, Zoi is the leading force in women's snowboarding. Gold medals at the Olympics, X Games and first place at Natural Selection. When she's not competing she is filming, sledding, and becoming a well-rounded rider. She is unstoppable.
CONGRATS ZOI AND MARK!
EGAN WINT! Egan has been putting in time on her board and everyone is noticing. Taking first place in the “Be Somebody” Dustbox rail jam and filming clips in Volcom’s Creedlecosm. Her unique spot selection combined with the uncanny ability to put down the landing gear, helped her get the votes to be awarded this years rookie.
KAISHU HIRANO! He set the world record for highest halfpipe air in the Olympics. Arguably the most memorable act in the Winter Olympics. Younger brother to Ayumo, Hirano came onto the scene in a big way this year. Dopest style. His IG clips go so hard. Case closed.
CONGRATS EGAN AND KAISHU!
SEBBE DE BUCK! Lofty doubles, big switch backside 180, tweaks, tree taps and more. Nabbing ender in Bahamas, Sebbe really put Europe on his back. His footage was talked about, watched, and rewatched. Approved and admired by the best.
IVIKA JUGENSON! Solo part Vitamin covered all the bases with an all around proper and entertaining street part. Spiked fences, countless kinks, elbow rails, presses, board slides, building gaps. She showed up on our screens with passion and style and everyone loved it.
